Optical Coherence Tomography Imaging Device
We have recently invested in the very latest Optical Coherence Tomography Imaging device (OCT). This is a new and an important addition to our range of Tests available.
It is of particular importance to those of our Patients who either have themselves or have a family history of various eye problems. These include such diseases as Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Diabetes,
Retinitis Pigmentosa to name a few. It also gives a wonderful base line for future scans where unexpected changes will be picked up much earlier than ever before possible. We can photograph the Fundus (Diabetes ?), scan the Macula (Macular Degeneration?), the Optic Nerve Head (Glaucoma?)
It would be advisable for all patients to invest at least in this baseline scan.
Digital Visual Field Analyser
We also have a Digital Visual Field Analyser,
which maps your Peripheral Visual Field and will pick up any areas of decreased light sensitivity and “scotoma”, which are blind spots in our field of view.
Often blind spots are not readily evident until they are quite extensive.
This is often the case with untreated or undetected Glaucoma, where a person might have lost 20% or more of their “side” vision before they even become aware of it.
